The recent introduction of the winter sown variety WIZARD has enabled
new markets to be supplied from UK sourced material. A major new
development has been the use of WIZARD in the export whole bean
market. Its large grain size and pale skin has increased its popularity
with end users – to such an extent that they are now asking
for WIZARD by name.
This type of bean forms an important part of the diet in many countries
either canned or purchased by the end consumer dry and then pre
soaked before cooking.
Crops are sown in the Autumn and harvested the following Aug/Sept.
The advantages for UK growers is that WIZARD offers adaptability
to a wide range of soil types and can be sown anytime between October
and December.
Crops are grown under strict guidelines in an effort to achieve
the highest quality possible. Growers are required to pay particular
attention to keeping bruchid beetle damage and stain to a minimum
whilst also ensuring that the produce is handled carefully at harvest
time to avoid cracked seed coats.
We then collect the grain from farms and our processing equipment
removes foreign material or undesirable beans with the use of the
latest cleaning and colour sorting machinery.
WIZARD beans are normally despatched in 25kg polyprop bags packed
into 20 foot containers and are available all the year round with
particular emphasis on new harvest production in September /October/November
of each year
