UK pulses offer excellent export opportunities

The most recent harvest has given us good quality pulse products, suitable for many end uses.

Marrowfat peas are good for colour retention this season and are a very good size. Parcels of  marrowfat peas with low cracked skins are available although some varieties have not faired so well for this characteristic. Cooking and soaking of peas this year is as good as it has been for many years.

We have reasonable stocks going forward and expect prices to remain firm well into 2011.

Bean production is up on the previous 2 seasons, however quality is aceptable with well formed beans with low bruchid levels available from many areas. Yields were not up to the fantastic highs of 2008, however they have been adequate and we expect growers to continue growing beans as a vital part of their rotational planning.
